Taking the western idea of the string quartet and transporting it to North India, Altered Boundaries pushes at the limits of contemporary Indian classical music. The standard 2 violins, viola and cello are replaced with 2 sitars, sarod and sarangi, creating a new sound that plays with polyphonic textures and combines familiar aspects of Indian music such as raga with new elements including counterpoint, harmony and ensemble.
Acclaimed musician Jonathan Mayer (main sitar) is joined by highly skilled and accomplished Indian classical musicians William Rees Hofmann on sarod, Sky Award artist Jasdeep Singh on second sitar and Surjit Singh on sarangi for this stunning work.
This is a must see event for fans of western and Indian classical music alike.
