Join us and Yorkshire based BBC Antiques’ expert, Caroline Hawley for a wonderfully convivial talk and lunch. Caroline will be talking about the traditions and customs associated with Christmas and where they come from…..
Christmas celebrations as we know really started with the Victorians and Caroline will look at the origins of Christmas customs from presents, food, decorations etc.
Caroline will show slides of examples of Victorian furniture, ceramics and silverware which would have been used along with glassware, decorations and toys! It will be fun, festive and informative!
You’ll recognise Caroline from Antiques’ Road Trip, Flog It! and Bargain Hunt; or possibly you attended our recent talk about Vintage fashion – which was great fun. She and her husband run Hawleys’ Auctioneers in Beverley. Caroline is not only great fun but she’s a font of information.
Her love of antiques started at a young age on a Victorian tip in her village where her interest was piqued by her various finds While she thought about a career in drama, she eventually settled on a career in antiques, although her antique career has had more than enough drama over the years! She opened her first shop at the age of 20 and in 2002 she and her husband set up their own auction business in Beverley, holding 4 to 5 antique and fine art sales a year from the racecourse.
