Lots of brand-new attractions have been lined up to take centre stage in 2019, including Lawnmower Racing! Dreamt up over a few pints in a West Sussex country pub back in 1973... Lawn Mower Racing was born, and the sport has never looked back since, spreading worldwide and developing into a professionally run, competitive, but above all, fun pursuit. And now, it is coming to the Driffield Showground! Join the North West Lawn Mower Racing Association at the East Riding Country Fair and see for yourself, one of the more... unusual forms of motor sport! If Lawnmower Racing is not your think, but you’ve always fancied experiencing driving an 18-wheeler? You’re in luck! Clive Shaw Trucking will be at the event offering American Truck driving experiences.
2019 also sees the return of the Working Gun Dog Trials, courtesy of Kirkbourne Spaniels. Darren Kirk has been training Gun dogs for over 25 years and has the experience to get you and your dog to a standard you can be proud of. Darren and his team of trainers from across the UK will be on hand to assess you and your dog and give you structured training to ensure you are heading in the right direction to win your aspirations. Darren said “We see thousands of gun dogs and handlers every year and come across all kinds of issues and you can be sure it does not take us long to get you back on track. Regardless of the age of your dog we can help you gain control in any environment and ensure you feel confident to continue into this wonderful sport” - "you only get out what you put in" and this is very true. If you are willing to put in the effort, there is no reason you cannot be working your dog on your local shoot or entering trials and working tests. Kirkbourne Spaniels will also be demonstrating their own dog’s agility in the Entertainment Arena.
A firm favourite across the weekend is the Ryedale Rescue Fun Dog show will be once again be running both days with 20 fantastic classes and is open to all ages, categories include best trick and fancy dress. There are prizes on offer all weekend for our dog competitions.
2019 will also see the introduction of a brand new ‘Wildlife Zone’ to the event. The Wildlife Zone will be centred around the Rix Pavilion Event Centre with both inside and outside activities and stands planned to create an educational and fun area for children and families to get involved with some free interactive and ‘hands on’ opportunities, including making bird feeders and bug hotels!
This area will also include birds of prey, a hands-on experience with mini beasts, giant tortoises and alpacas and to further compliment this zone we are also working closely with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, the RSPB, the East Yorkshire Bat Group and the National Trust to lay on further interactive, educational activities for children and families to take part in across the Weekend.
The Purple Pig Company will be joining us for the Weekend. The Purple Pig Company is a mobile petting farm that works closely with FACE (farming and countryside education) to provide fun and education using friendly animals. Children will be able to get close to stroke the animals with feeding times scheduled through the day and petting sessions being offered for children to hold the rabbits, chicks and guinea pigs.
To highlight the necessity to become more sustainable, The Wildlife Zone will be hosting a festival shop! Where visitors will be encouraged to donate quality undamaged items that are no longer loved. These donations will then be sold across the weekend, the proceeds of which will be donated to our supporting charities to further aid their work. There has never been a better time to grab a bargain and help the environment at the same time!
Events Manager, Matt said “We are very lucky to have such a diverse and amazing coastline and wildlife right here in East Yorkshire, but unfortunately nearly all of it is in decline. They’re facing many of the same serious threats that cause extinctions elsewhere. We are really pleased to be working with such great causes to help educate and spread the message on how pollution, the rise of plastics, habitat loss and climate change is affecting our wildlife. This has also led us into taking steps towards making the event plastic free over the next few years”
The East Riding Country Fair will once again feature a weekend of In Hand, Ridden & Fun Showing which will once again be hosted and ran by Patrington Mill Show & Livery Yard. Saturday is set to be a great day kicking off the proceedings at 10:00am with 50 in hand classes, 17 Championships and an Overall Supreme Championship. Sunday will continue and conclude with 45 Ridden Classes, 14 Championships and an Overall Supreme Championship with places on both days awarded up to 6th with rosettes for every competitor, plus both Supremes will win a cash prize of £50 each! Entries can be taken in advance and on the Weekend.
Due to popular demand a great selection of over local ales and ciders will be on offer along with live music on Friday and Saturday evening through in the Festival Bar.
As well as the usual pay as you go activities which include Go Karts, Crazy Golf, Archery and Bubble Football, we are pleased to once again include several activities within our “Outdoor Pursuits Zone” that are completely free of charge for visitors once they have arrived. These include our, Inflatable Assault Course, Inflatable Jungle Run, Segways, Climbing Wall, Action Wheels Bike Course, Miniature Tanks, Donkey Rides, WWII Living History and the Wonky Olympics!
Inspired by the lasting legacy of London 2012 to get Britain playing sports every day, two hapless PE teachers have decided to recreate the Games ... with some cones, hula hoops ... and a tiny megaphone, say hello to the Wonky Olympics!
They've suited up in their PE kits, they're sporting their sweatbands ... and they aren't accepting any notes from your mum to excuse you from this class (not even the ones you've written in her handwriting!). They're going to lead assault courses wherever they go and get Britain fit! This is going to be great fun for kids and adults, a real comedic act that'll get you moving!
If that all of this sounds like too much excitement, then why not take a look at over 100 Stalls or grab something to eat from one of the onsite caterers and pull up a chair for a well-deserved rest.
We might not be able to guarantee the weather, but we can guarantee a fun filled, action packed great value family fun weekend that the whole family will be talking about for months to come, including the dog!
Caravan and Camping is priced at £25.00 per pitch, shower and toilet facilities are available but there is no electric hook up. Entry tickets for the East Riding Country Fair sold separately.
