Ian C. Taylor is renowned for his casually profound manipulation of ‘found objects’; Ebony Andrews is firmly established as an artist with an expertise in taxidermy. This exhibition is the latest instalment of an ongoing ‘collaboration’ that involves one artist presenting the other with an object which is then transformed into an exhibition item.
Often the item is passed between the artists several times without their mutual aims being discussed until the piece is decreed to be either finished or a failure.
It’s a working method that is intended to question the way that individual artists – and galleries - ascribe ‘value’ to a work. This might sound daunting, but both Ian’s mercurial mind and Ebony’s renowned skill are each supplemented with a self-puncturing humour. In fact, the only worrying aspect of this exhibition is its subtitle - ‘Over the Hurdle’ - which implies that the ‘Instigate/Exchange’ project has an end in sight...
