The HIF Weekender

Our free virtual festival: the ‘HIF Weekender’, brings world-class culture to everyone at home this July..

The HIF Weekender is a celebration of the arts, featuring performances and interviews with internationally acclaimed musicians, best-selling authors and innovative thinkers to coincide with what would have been the legendary long weekend of Harrogate International Festivals' Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival.

The programme provides a real flavour of the HIF summer season, with music, DJ sets, crime fiction, literature, salon, children's and history events. There's plenty to delight and inspire, visit our website to see our full programme.

Join the kings and queens of crime writing, including Lee Child, Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Alex North, Mark Billlingham and many more as part of the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival. The winner of the biggest award in crime fiction: the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel Of The Year will be crowed and we'll welcome the 2020 crop of killer debuts as part of New Blood With Val McDermid.

John Suchet, Stella Duffy, and Anthony Horowitz all appear in our 'An Interview With' series, whilst Lewis Dartnell, Adam Rutherford and Claudia Hammond will take to our virtual stage for three virtual Berwins Salon North events.

The world premiere of Eclipse, commissioned during lockdown and performed digitally by musicians coming together from across the world, will celebrate the power of music in times of uncertainty and will be streamed live at 6pm on the Friday evening..

Incredible international musicians including Steven Isserlis, Momo Kodoma, Tasmin Little, and the Navarra String Quartet will take to the digital stage and together with our Guest Young Musician Curator Misha Mullov-Abaddo we'll welcome a selection of the very best up and coming musicians.

Alongside this we'll welcome the Hacienda DJ Graeme Park, Dr Kate Vigurs, Back Chat Brass, Family Songtime, a Harrogate Tour and much, much more.

The weekend will be completely free to enjoy, but all donations to our arts charity will be gratefully received to help ensure that our future is bright is this uncertain time for arts festivals.
