Monarchs – Charles II

Performance

Description

This bank holiday weekend join us at the court of King Charles II and meet the ‘Merry Monarch’.

It’s 1667. Plague, fire and war have beset Charles’ kingdom, and now the not-so-Merry Monarch is reviewing his Armoury. Can William Legge, the Master of the Armoury, convince the King that all will be well if the Dutch return? Will you be able to cheer up the ruler of the Restoration? Come find out…

Nickname: The ‘Merry Monarch’
Lived: 1630 – 1685
Reigned: 1660 – 1685
Ruled: England, Scotland, and Ireland

Son of a deposed king, on his return from exile after the bloody British Civil Wars he established a lively, hedonistic court in stark contrast to Oliver Cromwell’s puritanical era.

In honour of the King’s visit, there will be an action-packed programme of events and activities. See the full daily schedule below.

Cavalcade for a king horse shows
