Masham boasts one of the largest and finest market squares in England, where farmers gather over 2 days to compete and show their sheep. The event is a fun day out for all the family and has taken place for over 30 years, commemorating the bygone times when Masham was the venue for sheep sales of up to 70,000 sheep. Entrance is free, but we ask visitors to pay to park their cars on the recreation ground. All proceeds from the event go to local charities including Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The event is run by volunteers.
The Sheep Fair includes a sheep show, sheep racing, craft market, Bishop Blaize procession, fleece stalls, wool competition, sheepdog demonstrations, hand bell ringers, Morris dances, art exhibition, small children’s fair & flower display in beautiful St. Mary’s Church. Visitors can also take enjoy the local shops, cafes, pubs and tours of Theakstons and Black Sheep Breweries.
