Waterton Park Hotel presents 'War on Our Doorstep' - 1939
Sunday 12th May 2019 from 3.00pm, join us for some fabulous entertainment and afternoon tea in the Bridgewalk Restaurant
The play consists of beautifully observed vignettes evoking the atmosphere and thoughts of Yorkshire residents based on 3 wartime archives — a housewife’s diary from the Mass Observation Project 1939–40, the diary of a recruit to the Army Medical Corps, and the wartime diaries of Fred Spencer, founder of York Gate Garden in Adel.
The wartime love of music and dance, and observations of life during the war, serious and humorous, are interwoven with music performed by two musicians and include ‘The Lambeth Walk’, (with lively dance showing the wartime spirit), songs such ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’, Andrews Sisters Bei Mir Bist Du Schon, A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square and audience participation with ‘Bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’.
Trio Literati's versatile musicians add to the WW2 ambience with the smoky, foot tapping music of "Forces Favourites". With Will Rastell - percussion and Eleanor Rastell - soprano & key board.
