Overview & description
Musicport festival is held in October each year at Whitby Pavilion (Musicport 2017 is 20-22 October). The festival is friendly, intimate, inclusive and welcoming to all – whether you’re on your own, a family or a group.
The music represents cultures from all over the world – beats to get you up and dancing, DJs to transport you, dance and spoken word to set the imagination going, plus workshops, market stalls, food – there’s something for everyone and plenty of surprises!
The festival opens at 6.00pm on Friday evening (20/10/17) and runs till 1.30am, then Saturday (21/10/17) from 10.00am through till 1.30am again, and Sunday (22/10/17) from 10.00am till 11.30pm.
Headline acts for 2017 include the Afro Celt Sound System, Benjamin Zephaniah and the Revolutionary Minds, Kafaya, Trio da Kali (Mali), Amaraterra (Italy) and Maarja Nuut (Estonia), Andy Kershaw with a DJ set, Hardeep Singh Kohli cookery demos, and many more acts of all kinds!
Concerts also take place during the year at a number of venues – with artists of all kinds, from local musicians starting out to international names. Details are on our website and Facebook page.
Our education work goes on in local libraries, schools, nurseries, music centres – see our website for more detail.
