Whitby Town Council are bringing together a spectacular programme of festive fun for the Opening Weekend of Whitby Christmas Festival which takes place take place on Front Marina Car Park 18th – 20th November.

This Exciting Weekend offers a packed programme, including live music, fireworks, a spectacular community lantern parade and celebrity switch on of the Christmas lights. Throughout the weekend there will be a programme of live entertainment and an amazing Christmas market featuring a diverse range of stalls, from artisan cheese maker, through gifts and crafts to hot food and festive drinks.

On Friday 18th November a fantastic, vibrant community lantern parade will process from Pannett Art Gallery to the Christmas Market on Front Marina Car Park for the switching on of the Christmas lights.

The lanterns have been created by professional theatre company Animated Objects, working alongside local schools and community groups to design and build some wonderful lanterns. They worked with over 200 local people to build an amazing display of light and music, creating a magical lantern parade that reflects the people, places, and iconic sights of Whitby.

The procession starts at the Pannett Art Gallery, Pannett Park at 6pm and will arrive at the market at approximately 6.30pm.

Local school girl Mabel Witney (winner of the Mayoral Christmas Card competition) and England cricketer Adam Lyth will then have the honour of switching on the Christmas lights, followed by a stunning firework display.

On the Friday evening music and entertainment are provided by Yorkshire Coast Radio and throughout the weekend the stage will feature local bands.

The market and entertainment will run from 5 – 9pm on Friday 18th, 10am - 9pm Saturday 19th and 10am – 4pm on Sunday 20th November 2016.
