Whitby Rising Music Festival is back! In a picturesque location close to the iconic Whitby Abbey on the Yorkshire Coast, this family friendly festival is back for its second year. After a successful first year, the event has now moved to a bigger site, Stripes Farm, and this year you can camp overnight to experience that authentic festival vibe.
Whitby Rising is created and curated by singer songwriter and Welcome to Yorkshire patron Alistair Griffin who wants to bring a great music event to Whitby, where he went to school, somewhere he regularly visits and a community he supports. Alistair is well known for amongst other things his theme tune “The Road” commissioned by Welcome to Yorkshire for the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in 2014.
The musical line up is headlined by Alistair supported by Beth McCarthy, The Gary Barlow Experience, Kings of Queen, The Raywells, The Calls, The Gurly Wurlys, Anna McLuckie, with other great acts from near and far..
There will be lots of entertainment to keep the young ones busy with bubble parties, climbing walls, face painting, glitter art, drumming workshops, 5 a side, and the obligatory bouncy castle.
And lots for the adults too; including the very popular Prosecco Bar, a Whitby Rising Ale courtesy of Whitby Brewery, henna tattoos, karaoke tent, photo booth, and festival stalls.
There will be ample supplies of festival food and drink, ice cream, sweets and treats, teas and coffees to keep you going through the day. The doors open at 11am .
The Whitby Rising Cup will once more be up for grabs at a pre-festival Crazy Golf Tournament on Wednesday July 5th , as well as a FREE acoustic afternoon being held at festival partner Whitby Brewery from 1pm on Sunday 11th June. Keen musicians are also welcome to The Battle of the Bands on June 29th to compete for a place on the festival stage.
Whitby Rising Tickets are available online NOW from www.thelittleboxoffice.com/WhitbyRising and also from Abigails on Flowergate and Eskdale School reception in Whitby.
There are a limited number of FREE tickets for Under 12’s.
The festival is raising money for Wet Wheels, a charity providing disabled people with the chance to access the sea in a fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding way using specially modified, fully accessible powerboats.
“It’s not an easy or an inexpensive task putting on a festival these days” says Alistair,” and you need everyone pulling for you, but I felt Whitby was the place, and we’re keen for everyone to get behind the festival so we can build it together. We’re looking for volunteers as marshalls, bar staff, car parkers and definitely a clear up crew. In exchange for a few hours labour, you can get yourself a FREE ticket for the festival and we’ll even throw in a bacon sarnie.”
