Meet Rocket, the world-changing locomotive which kick started a golden age of innovation in our latest exhibition, Brass, Steel and Fire. Journey through a great age of experimentation when vicars, lace makers and miners breathed life into hissing, steaming miniature locomotives in their homes. Witness 100 years of rapid technological change that captivated the minds of princes and paupers alike, and learn how Stephenson’s Rocket – back in the museum after 30 years - shaped the course of history with its experimental engineering.
Get a taste of the majesty of steam power for yourselves, with a trip aboard our steam train, before warming up with a hot drink and indulgent festive treat in our cafés. During weekends in December magical storytelling sessions will whisk our youngest visitors away on a merry adventure and pop-up science experiments will show you how to unlock the true power of sprouts.
For this and more, visit National Railway Museum. We’re open 10am-5pm every day except for 24, 25 and 26 December when we are closed.
