Platinum Jubilee Holiday at the National Railway Museum

Family

Description

Celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee with our special May half-term family activities, royal carriages you can peep inside and a new exhibition all about the royals’ love of train travel. We have everything you need for a regal day out.

HALF-TERM FUN
Families can learn about how the railways have changed during the Queen’s 70-year reign with hands-on activities everyone can enjoy.

Head to the Royal Railway Activity Zone in Station Hall to make flags and bunting, test your maths skills in Pixel Puzzles and help create a royal railway track.

Get moving with the family-friendly Flux Education Theatre on 1, 4 and 5 June in Station Hall. Solve problems and have fun with interactive coded dances with a Platinum Jubilee twist.

Build a Locomotive is back from 30 May – 4 June in Great Hall. Be quick—tickets for this LEGO construction activity must be pre-booked online with your museum admission and sell out fast. Find out more on the Build a Locomotive page.

Join our Explainers as they tell you fascinating stories about the museum’s beautiful royal carriage collection in Royal Talks, available twice a day.

See Conservation in Action on 1 June as our team gets to work on the royal carriages. They'll be happy to talk to you about our collection and the work they do to look after it.

ROYALS ON RAILS EXHIBITION
Visit our new exhibition exploring the British royals’ relationship with the railways, a setting that inspired art, design, and innovation in royal travel. The exhibition features unique objects from our collection and a specially filmed episode of Curator with a Camera to tell the story of Royals on Rails.

SEE THE ROYAL CARRIAGES UP CLOSE
A beautiful selection of royal carriages is on display in Station Hall. Admire their exquisite exterior detailing and peer through the windows to see the luxurious rooms in which royal duties were conducted.
