Yorkshire! Achievement, Grit and Controversy

Please check websites of all organisations or businesses before you visit. With the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, many businesses are changing their opening hours.

Beningbrough’s exhibition Yorkshire! Achievement, Grit and Controversy explores the county’s reputation with some famous faces on display, all achievers in their own right but some seen as non-conformists. From the new Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker to boxer Nicola Adams, writer Charlotte Brontë and Guy Fawkes, plus works by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and David Hockney. The wide selection of portraits and sculptures on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, the Arts Council Collection, Olivia Hemingway – a working artist in Yorkshire – and York Art Gallery sit alongside personal narratives and interactives.

The hall is open daily 11.30 – 4pm (closed Mondays September – December)
