The Old Flax Store is a grade II listed building playing host to Northern Monk Brewery, its taproom The Refectory, and our event space The Chapter Hall, which is available to hire throughout the week.
Boasting flagstone floors, wrought iron pillars and exposed brick walls, The Old Flax Store is a true symbol of industrial Leeds, and the perfect setting for a brewery that prides itself on taking the best of tradition, and bringing it into the 21st century. We are committed to collaborating with like-minded creatives, from artists to bloggers, and keenly involve ourselves with our local community, working with various charitable and not-for-profit organisations.
The Refectory, has 16 draught keg lines and 2 cask, pouring beers from our brew house downstairs, as well as showcasing some incredible guest beers from Europe and beyond. The Refectory Kitchens serves a range of seasonal British small plates, we focus on pairing beers with food in a casual communal dining environment. Whether it’s brunch with the kids, beers with colleagues or coffee for one with the morning paper, The Refectory offers a welcoming space for all. We host a range of activities, from lunchtime yoga to pub quizzes, salsa classes and board game clubs.
The Refectory Gardens is our recently renovated outdoor area where we grow hops, fruit trees and herbs to serve the brewery and kitchen. The perfect spot for a pint on a summers eve.
The Chapter Hall is the perfect blank canvas for all your events, and is available for weddings, exhibitions, gigs and corporate hire. This is also where you’ll find some of our in-house events, from beer festivals to banquets with The Real Junk Food Project, with whom we work closely.
We also offer brewery tours and tutored tastings, a great activity for stag/hens groups or something a little different for your work force to try.
