Yorkshire More has been running for over 2 years in North Leeds. It is run entirely by volunteers some of whom are affected by mental health problems. Volunteers help with jam/chutney making, labelling and selling at events. Groups of volunteers come together on a regular basis to turn raw, locally sourced ingredients into tasty, speciality jams and chutneys. We sell at local markets and events such as the BBC Good Food Show and North Leeds Food Festival and are stocked in a number of local outlets in the Yorkshire area.
We have seen volunteers really benefit from their involvement with us – in particular their confidence has grown and in some cases this has led them back into the workplace after long term unemployment. For some of our volunteers, we have been able to provide a valuable social network and opportunity to socialise and make contacts combatting feelings of exclusion and loneliness.
We not only provide a social benefit but also a great tasting, attractive, professional product that has been complimented upon by all our customers. We focus on making our production in line with the seasons. Our current range includes: Coriander chutney; Pear & Date chutney; Tomato & Apple chutney; 3 Onion chutney; Chilli jam; Rhubarb Berry jam; Apple & Plum jam.
