Lowther House is a lovely 200-year-old property on HM the Queen's Duchy of Lancaster Estate. It is situated in an idyllic location 200 metres from the road, bordered by Pickering Woods on one side, Pickering Beck on two sides and the age old 'common' known as The Butts on the fourth side.
Utter peace and tranquility are the order of the day, disturbed only by the whistles' of the NYM Railway steam engines. The garden is a train spotter’s paradise from which to view complete trains as they pass by puffing their way up the dale to Whitby.
Hiking, hill climbing, cycling, bird watching, etc. can all be done right from our entrance drive. We will lend out bikes if guests would like to try their hand at mountain biking! ?As the house borders Pickering Beck, fishing can be tried using our equipment - not for serious anglers though!
The entrance to the NY Moors National Park is just five minutes walk from our rear gate. Although we’re in a woodland setting, Pickering town with its lovely traditional shops, pubs and restaurants - mostly still locally owned - is just a 15-minute walk away through a tree-lined avenue, or the woods.
We offer breakfast in the garden on the terrace or deck, weather permitting. Breakfast can also be served in the Beck Room for a special treat, we are happy to organise a bottle of champagne or chocolates etc. for a celebratory occasion.
Meals and snacks are available all day, picnics on the lawn, and we can provide rucksack packed lunches for a day trip out.
We are located on the entry trail to N.Y. Moors National Park, hiking and mountain biking commence from right outside our gate,
Dogs are welcome with well-behaved owners - there are lots of exciting places for them? to explore!
