Award -winning Independent book shop and café with an outdoor terrace, in Thirsk North Yorkshire. In 2014 we won Independent Bookseller for the North and have been shortlisted many times, in recognition of our community involvement and lively events programme. We sell a huge range of books and offer a rapid ordering service. Many a local reader has been amazed when their lunchtime book order has been in the shop the next morning! As locals, we specialise in the best maps, walking guides and local interest titles for the area. Coupled with a large selection of photographic cards and calendars, we have everything you need to take memories of Yorkshire away with you.
Our children’s section includes all the new titles plus popular characters and our favourite classics. Older children’s and young adult titles are upstairs with stunning non-fiction books. Seating, colouring tables and baskets of books for browsing make us a destination for families. Story time is every Friday at 10am in our large, comfy upstairs story room. This is a free session for pre-school children and all are welcome to drop in for stories and a chat.
In addition, we offer distinctive greetings cards and stationery, prints, fine bone china mugs plus soft toys, gifts and games for all the family. Our latest range includes ceramics, home ware and soft furnishings, inspired by the British countryside. Every item is hand-selected ensuring we always have something a little different from the rest!
Our ground floor café serves locally sourced, wonderful food from fine Yorkshire producers plus our own mouth-watering home baked cakes. Voted Tearoom of the Year in the prestigious Flavours of Herriot Country Awards 2018, we were admired for our interesting, fresh and tasty menu plus our warm welcoming atmosphere. Coffee is freshly ground for each cup and our savoury dishes and popular homemade soups are prepared fresh every day. Open 7 days per week, light lunches can be enjoyed from 11am to 3pm in our relaxing café space. During warmer months our beautifully maintained terrace garden is open with plentiful seating and shade if needed. Wi-fi is of course free indoors and outside.
We host regular author events and book signings which are advertised on our social media pages and website, and we link in with local festivals to bring big names to Yorkshire.
