Cave du Cochon is the second venture of award-winning chef Josh Overington, from the nationally acclaimed restaurant Le Cochon Aveugle.
In the heart of the city, this Parisian style wine bar is York's best secret. A newly opened kitchen has extended the food menu, which now not only offers charcuterie, cheese, sharing platters and fondues, but simple bistro-style dishes on an A la Carte menu as well, such as creamy burrata with figs and beetroot, confit duck leg and fresh, cooked to order madeleines.
Chef Josh Overington was earlier this year named as Elite Traveller's 7 Chefs to Watch for 2018 and he also represented the North East competing in BBC 2 Great British Menu series in 2017. Sister restaurant Le Cochon Aveugle features in the Harden's top 100UK Restaurants. The two venues are ideally located just a few doors away from each other – perfect for a pre-dinner drink at the bar before dinner!
With a pretty courtyard garden, dining room upstairs and more casual bar seating downstairs, this bistro and wine bar is fast becoming a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
There is something for everyone on the extensive wine list (some 150 wines), with nearly half available by the glass, carafe and bottle. Plus, there is a carefully thought list of craft beers and ciders and cocktails too.
The wines featured are chosen especially from small and independent growers and producers from lesser-known producers and regions from across the world. We focus on natural wines, with a real taste of their 'terroir', production and the passion from their producers, but we also offer some exceptional wines from a more traditional background as well.
Josh, and wife Victoria's passion for food and wine is obvious in their choice of products. Cave du Cochon offers a more casual experience – you can pop down just for a glass or two with some fried chicken, or enjoy a full 3 course meal with friends.
