The Bay Horse Inn is a traditional family-run old English inn with log fires, beamed bar/dining areas, patio and pretty enclosed garden. We are ideally situated close to major routes to the North, and East coast via A1/A59, halfway between York and Harrogate. Easy access to York, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Leeds city centres by rail- Cattal and Kirk Hammerton stations are within 1 mile.
We serve traditional local, fresh, homemade food using meat supplied by Tancred Field Farm of Whixley, and a selection of cask-conditoned real ales. Our accommodation is in comfortably furnished courtyard en-suite rooms. We are dog-friendly, welcome families, and have ground-floor rooms which have level access.

Our warm and inviting pub has been welcoming travellers for hundreds of years, situated in the heart of Green Hammerton village, halfway between York and Harrogate. Green Hammerton is now a peaceful but thriving village, just off the A59, with a gorgeous village green flanked by elegant 18th century houses. In the village, you will find a post office/stores, a fantastic handmade furnure shop, village hall with cricket/sports field and play area, hairdresser and garden machinery shop. In the immediate area is Queen Ethelburgas school, Allerton Castle wedding venue and Yorkshire Harness Raceway.Cyclists will find us conveniently close to the halfway point on the Way of the Roses long distance cycle route.
We have lockable indoor bike storage, washing/drying facilities, and are happy to provide packed lunches. Just outside the village is a farm shop- Tancred Field Farm- which supplies The Bay Horse with meat from their herd of lincoln red cattle, pork and lamb, and specialities such as Tancred's own pancetta and salamis. Guests particularly enjoy the delicious sausages, bacon and black pudding at breakfast.We are delighted to now offer a new, a la carte menu in our fully re-furbished restaurant. Diners will be able to choose from a short selection of seasonal dishes featuring the best of our local produce. Our winter menu includes slow-braised belly pork with scallops, crushed peas and Calvados sauce, Holme farmed venison steak with butternut squash puree, red chard and Madeira jus, and delicious home-made puddings such as vanilla and passionfruit crème brulee with shortbread, or chocolate truffle torte with whisky cream.
Our popular bar menu will still be available- fantastic Black Sheep beer-battered fresh haddock, matured Tancred steaks and gammon, Bay Horse Lincoln red beefburgers, pork and apple burgers, home-baked ham and eggs etc. all served with handcut chips and trimmings.
