The Machin family have been farming the land that The Balloon Tree sits on for over 30 years. In April 2004, they went from a little wooden hut at the side of the road, to the building as you see it today.
Our motto “Fewer Food Miles – More Farm Yards” truly encompasses everything we stand for. We do our upmost to ensure all our produce is top quality and sourced as locally as possible.
Over the past 13 years, our success has allowed us to extend our café twice to keep up with customer demand, and refurbish our shop to keep it up to date with customer needs.
The Balloon Tree Farmshop endeavours to supply only top-quality products from local suppliers such as Jams and Chutneys by Brackenhill to delicious beef from The Yorkshire Wagyu Company.
We have a fully stocked deli counter that showcases a variety of artisan cheese and serves hot and cold food to take away. This includes a range of sandwiches, sausage rolls, pasties, pork pies and one of our most popular, hot pork sandwiches with stuffing and apple sauce.
On the grounds of the farmshop we also have two pygmy goats (Petal & Flower), families can go feed and observe the goats in their large enclosure. Further developments and animals are planned for this section. Watch. This. Pen.
The Farm & Pick Your Own
The Balloon Tree has made its name as a successful PYO farm. We are very lucky to have light sandy soil which gives a unique flavour to our home grown produce. This parcel of land has successfully grown fresh fruit and vegetables for the past 30 years. Our season starts in May with our first Strawberry and ends in October with our last Pumpkin. In April, the farm sees its first peak of Asparagus spears emerging from the soil. This is harvested daily, twice daily at its peak and it is trimmed and bunched to go out to the shop and served through the café.
Our café has gone from strength to strength with a talented team of Chefs and front of house staff behind it. It’s a family friendly environment that serves a diverse menu for both children & adults in a modern and comfortable setting. We have a team of barista’s ready to serve your coffee to your personal specifications or a selection of speciality teas to suit any mood. This can all be accompanied by one (or two) of our home baked cakes and desserts, lovingly made by our head baker Simon and his team.
Weather permitting, we have a beautifully landscaped café garden for customers to enjoy alfresco dining. If it’s a bit chilly, we have blankets on hand so guests can still embrace the winter sunshine.
Our children’s play area is ever developing, we have a model tractor, climbing frame with a slide, two story Wendy house and a motorised digger attach to a sand pit. All this can be observed from the various tables overlooking the play area to ensure the safety of your little ones.
