This week, Harrogate Spring Water staff took to the streets of Harrogate to participate in the Great British Spring Clean, in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy. The initiative encourages the community to become #litterheroes and help clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches. In the past 12 months, our outdoor spaces have mattered to us more than ever before; ensuring we keep these spaces beautiful isn’t only good for the environment but also benefits our mental and physical health.
Although the Spring Clean initiative runs for 3 weeks, you can get involved at any time of the year. Many councils, including Harrogate Borough Council, lend out litter picking equipment, so we encourage everyone to get out and about on a litter pick walk and help keep Yorkshire clean.
For Harrogate Spring Staff, it’s a fantastic team building exercise whilst enjoying the great outdoors and supporting the community. Charlie Porteous from Harrogate Spring Water says, “everyone looks forward to the GBSC. It’s always a fun afternoon out of the office to chat to colleagues and do a walk with a purpose. It’s amazing how much litter we collect in only a couple of hours!”
As well as participating in the Great British Spring Clean, Harrogate Spring Water continues to work with Keep Britain Tidy on ‘The Incredible Shrinking Bottle’, an initiative which encourages consumers to recycle their bottle on the go. The campaign highlights 100% recyclability, whether it be the bottle, label or cap. It also promotes space-saving and reduces debris by keeping the cap with the bottle. It follows independent research, jointly commissioned with KBT, which shows an overwhelming majority of bottled water consumers want to recycle more, as well as reduce litter. The campaign encourages consumers to Twist it, Cap it and Recycle it.
