This is a lovely short circuit of the town of Pontefract, made famous by the eponymous liquorice cakes and the death of Richard II in the town’s castle.

Starting near the station at Tanshelf there is a loop around the town taking in Pontefract Park, which is a local nature reserve. The reserve covers waterways, woodland and grassland with open water sections to the site as well. This is a lovely oasis to the pace of modern life and is seen as many in area as a place to find peace. There are several paths to take so you can explore at your own pace.
