Our first trip to Betty’s. Excellent service, no wait despite going at lunch time. Lovely service and friendly staff. The fish bake with salmon and prawn and haddock was delicious. The afternoon tea was a must to test. A satisfying and unhurried experience. It was my daughter’s birthday and so they bought her out a little fondant fancy with a candle on it. A nice but not over the top gesture.
A must-visit spot in York 🫖💛 [The café is lovely, but the queue can be very long, especially during peak hours]. Bettys is the perfect place to enjoy a classic British afternoon tea. The elegant interior, friendly service, and timeless atmosphere make it feel truly special. The scones are warm and fluffy, the cakes are beautifully made, and the tea selection is excellent. Yes, there’s usually a queue — but it’s absolutely worth the wait! If you want an authentic, iconic York experience, Bettys should be at the top of your list. ☕🍰✨
Just simply sublime! The Belmont room is a beautiful piece of interior design and from the moment I walked in I was provided with the best service I could possibly be given, second to none! They take your coat for you and make all the necessary dietary arrangements for you so your afternoon tea is perfect. I loved the endless selection of teas and especially the Christmas tea, the hints of cinnamon complemented the festive feel of the tea. Serenaded by a beautifully composed live pianist, who was playing Christmas songs all afternoon, the atmosphere was second to none. The afternoon tea I had with items swapped out for my nut allergy was delicious, especially the scones you can tell the butter was extremely high quality due to how thick it was. I was served by the wonderful Imogen I believe. She had such a wonderful smile and demeanour and catered to my every need that afternoon, I made sure to leave her a big tip. I was also pleased you could order shop items from the Belmont room itself which really helped avoid that gnarly queue downstairs.
You kind of expect this response when it comes to bettys. But it's well deserved. Just finished our evening with sweets- the engadine, sticky toffee, cheesecake and the sundae. All received fulsome praise. If I was being picky, the engadine was a little dry once the toffee sauce was gone; but the almond flavour was delicious. I also had the mojito- the ginger adding a really pleasant aftertaste. Hit chocolates were enjoyed too. The pianist was outstanding and received regular rounds of applause.
Fantastic elegant experience at afternoon tea for our group! There is an upstairs space where you can book tea ahead of time, which we did since our group was large. I had thought we would need two separate tables, but they were able to seat us all together. There is a pianist, playing music in the background which added to the ambience. Elegant without being stuffy. I did feel rather like being on a Cunard line ship. Our server, Diane, was wonderful, explaining the different types of tea and noting that one was only available there in that room and not for sale or at the tea room downstairs. There were tiered trays of delicious sandwiches, scones, and pastries—plenty of choices. They were even able to accommodate a vegan in our group with her own tower of beautiful treats.
