|The York Youth Festival is making a return to Rowntree Park this summer, inviting young people from across the city to join in the fun. Scheduled for Wednesday, 22 July, from 2pm to 5pm, this event promises to be an exciting afternoon filled with activities and opportunities for teenagers to connect and celebrate their culture.
What to Expect at the Festival
Following the success of last year's inaugural festival, the York Youth Festival will again provide a free and welcoming space for young people to gather, participate in various activities, and enjoy live entertainment. The festival is designed specifically for teenagers aged 11 to 18, and it is organised by members of the local Youth Council, ensuring that the event reflects the interests and priorities of the youth in York.
Live music performances from local young musicians and bands
Interactive experiences, including virtual reality (VR) headset technology
Opportunities for local organisations to connect with young people
Free food and plenty of games to enjoy
With no need to book in advance, young people can simply turn up and get involved in all the activities on offer. This makes it easy for everyone to join in the fun, whether alone or with friends.
Voices of the Youth Council
Will, a member of the York Youth Council, expressed excitement about the festival, stating, “It’s going to be a great event this year, bring your friends along. There will be free food, live music, lots of games, and things to do. We’re excited to see you there!” This enthusiasm highlights the festival's aim to create a lively and engaging atmosphere for young attendees.
Support from Local Authorities
The York Youth Festival is supported by the City of York Council, which plays a crucial role in helping the Youth Council organise the event. Councillor Bob Webb, the Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, commented on the importance of youth-led initiatives, saying, “It’s fantastic to see young people taking the lead in shaping events like this. The York Youth Festival offers a positive and inclusive environment for young people to meet others, try new activities, and build confidence.”
This support from local authorities not only helps facilitate the festival but also encourages young people to take an active role in their community, promoting a sense of belonging and representation.
