|Seats on trains over the Christmas period have been released today. A limited number of tickets are available for travel on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day but almost no services are available on Christmas Day or Boxing Day:
Seats from multiple services are available through Trainline.
Tourist trains
Some people just like the train, especially if it's a Christmas steam service or a miniature track. It can be a great way to entertain a big family gathering and, depending on the service, will be suitable for most family members (check before you travel for arrangements pushchairs and wheelchairs).
North York Moors Railway

Steam services and santa available on this line! Christmas specials start on 3rd December.
Wensleydale Railway

The Wensleydale Railway will be hosting Christmas specials over the Christmas period:
Keighley and Worth Valley Railway
Tickets for the Elf Explorer near Keighley are on sale with dates for the Christmas special train service beginning in November 2022:
Whistlestop Valley Miniature Railway
Based in Huddersfield this narrow gauge railway has a Santa Express on selected dates during December
Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

One hour steam train rides from Bolton Abbey near Skipton with Santa from the end of November:
Middleton Railway
Santa Express starts at the Middleton Railway in South Leeds in December 2022:
