Explore Leeds City Museum for free and visit our four floors of interactive and exciting galleries. Visit the Life on Earth gallery and come face-to-face with the Leeds Tiger, explore the history of Leeds in The Leeds Story gallery and visit our latest special exhibition on the top floor.

World View, The Collector’s Cabinet and Ancient Worlds galleries are currently closed.

Leeds City Museum originally opened to the public in 1821, having been established by the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society two years earlier. It re-opened in 2008, moving to the historic Leeds Institute on Millennium Square.

The museum has an excellent on-site café serving coffee, cakes, sandwiches and more, making it a great stop for a spot of lunch. The museum shop includes locally made products, jewellery, books and specially commissioned pieces which complement our exhibitions.
