CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
Due to budget cuts, Kirklees Council had to reduce its museum operations, affecting Red House, the Tolson, and Dewsbury Museums. With a goal to save £531,000 by 2017–18, these closures sparked concern among groups valuing the Bronte heritage, leading to campaigns to keep them open. Despite these efforts, Red House was closed on December 21, 2016, with plans to sell the building and relocate or disperse its contents. As of November 2023, the building had yet to be sold by the council, seven years after closure.
