Yorkshire Wildlife Trust can bring you close to nature wherever you are in the county. The region’s largest independent conservation charity, the Trust looks after almost 100 special places for wildlife from the very tops of the windswept Moors to woodlands in the Dales and perhaps most iconic of all, the vast white cliffs along the Flamborough Headland and the nearby Living Seas Centre. In Yorkshire’s far south western corner, the ‘lands end’ of Spurn Point has been cared for by the Trust since the 1950s and remains one of the most unusual coastal locations anywhere in Britain, complete with a newly renovated 128ft lighthouse for visitors to explore.
Elsewhere, the Trust has hugely popular visitor sites at Potteric Carr, just minutes from the centre of Doncaster and popular with all ages and levels of interest in wildlife, and nature reserves close to York and Leeds city centres. You can also experience wildlife-friendly farming in action near Huddersfield at the Stirley Community Farm, with regular open days and events.
Wildlife regularly seen across the Trust’s huge network of reserves includes; puffins, seals, barn owls, otters, marsh harriers, bitterns, avocets, peregrine falcons and a wealth of butterflies, wildflowers and dragonflies.
