Guisborough Essentials

History

Guisborough is a place steeped in history. “Gighesbore” is listed in the Domesday Book and the ruined Gisborough Priory dates back to the 12th century. There are also suggestions that Guisborough could date back as far as the Roman Occupation of Britain with items such as the Guisborough Helmet, a Roman cavalry helmet discovered in the area in 1864, used as evidence.
