Since the 7th century, the Minster has been at the centre of Christianity in the north of England and today remains a thriving church rooted in the daily offering of worship and prayer. The Minster was built for the glory of God. Every aspect of this ancient building – from the exquisite, handcrafted stone through to the unrivalled collection of medieval stained glass – tells the story of Jesus Christ. We invite you to discover this sacred place and the love of God at its heart, which has attracted people from across the globe for more than 1000 years.
Services take place through the day from 7:30am until 5:30pm. For service times, please check the York Minster website.
The Minster will be open for sightseeing six days a week, Monday to Saturday (exc. Tuesdays) from 10am – 3.30pm (last exit 4.15pm) and on Sundays from 12.30pm – 2.30pm (last exit 3.00pm).
The Undercroft Museum and Central Tower are currently not accessible.
Please note, over the next few months there will be some weeks where the building shuts at 12.45pm. This is due to the voicing of our Organ after a major restoration project. We will also have a special Advent and Christmas schedule will may affect the regular times listed above. PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR TIMES.
The building will however remain open for Private Prayer every day (excluding Tuesdays) from 10am to 12noon.
The Minster will continue to offer Christian worship, fellowship, music and reflection through its digital channels during the lockdown. Follow at YorkMinster.org or on social media.
