One of only a handful of dedicated Wildlife Trust marine centres around the UK, the team will help you to learn about the weird and wonderful wildlife beneath the waves, with interactive displays, regular events and fantastic natural arts and crafts you can take home as a memory of your visit. There’s no better place to head to when the weather turns typically British!
The Living Seas Centre boasts a jam packed events programme suitable for all ages, so join us for guided activities such as rock pooling, shore searches, guided walks and talks, as well as bird ringing demonstrations throughout the year. Some charges may apply, see the website for more or to book online. You can also book onto Living Seas Safari boat trips which run between April and July, and depart from North Landing at Flamborough Cliffs Nature Reserve. These one hour boat trips, aboard a traditional Yorkshire fishing coble, offer amazing close up views of nesting puffins, kittiwakes and razorbills, as well as heading into a sea cave.
The Living Seas Centre is also home to a the Flamborough Bird Observatory’s ringing laboratory, where globe-trotting birds are monitored by attaching a small ring to their leg – just like us wearing a watch. Look out for open day events where you can get a once in lifetime chance to get eye-to-eye with your favourite feathered friends.
The Living Seas Centre is run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, a local charity working to protect Yorkshire’s amazing wildlife, including in our offshore areas. Find out how you could get involved in campaigning, surveying our marine wildlife or helping to keep our beaches clean from litter. The Living Seas Centre also boasts a fully equipped classroom and offers an exciting educational programme which ties in with all levels of the National Curriculum.
