Walk Description

Starting at the Tees Barrage International White-Water Centre, this walk winds around both banks of the River Tees. Start by heading down river to Newport bridge on the north bank of the river before crossing the river at Newport Bridge, a vertical lift bridge. Head over the bridge and back upstream towards Tees Barrage on the south bank of the river. Tees Barrage was open in 1995 and is used to control the flow of the river. Once you pass the Barrage keep heading upstream and cross back to the North side of the river using Infinity Bridge. Follow the path back to your start point at the White-Water Centre.

Whilst walking along the riverbanks keep your eyes open for any seals in the water as they are frequently spotted enjoying the area.

This route follows a flat paved track, and is traffic free except for the bridge crossing which is a pavement next to the road and is accessed by steps.
