Dr Ben Garrod: Ultimate Dinosaurs is coming to Halifax

Dr. Ben Garrod, an expert in all things dinosaurs, is bringing his hit show, Ultimate Dinosaurs to West Yorkshire. If you’ve followed Ben’s television credits, you’d know he’s worked with the iconic Sir David Attenborough on the BBC’s “The Day the Dinosaurs Died” and “Attenborough and The Giant Dinosaur.” But did you know he’s also the voice behind some of the most riveting talks on BBC Radio 4 like The Infinite Monkey Cage and The Human Hive? Yes, the scientist who’s taken the world by storm is coming to Yorkshire.

We caught up with Dr Garrod to ask him about the upcoming show:

Do you have a favourite place to eat in Yorkshire?

Just like some of my favourite dinosaurs, I’m an old vegetarian, so anywhere that does a good veggie meal. I am a bit of a foodie, so always look forward to finding out which nice little restaurants, bistros, bakeries and cafes I can discover.

Have you ever travelled to Yorkshire for sport – if so, tell us a bit about those visits?

Not yet. I am a keen runner though and I know there’s some great running up in Yorkshire, so maybe I’ll bring my trainers and someone can take me on a trail run.

It’s a whirlwind tour – what sort of accommodation do you stay in between performances?

As long as there’s a roof over my head, then I’m not too fussy when I’m on a tour. I used to live in a tropical rainforest, so I’m pretty good at sleeping anywhere nowadays. Wherever possible though, I do like staying in little, privately-owned places, rather than the big chains, which just seem to lack the same charm and character of a good B&B or family-owned hotel.

Will you get a chance to go sightseeing while in Yorkshire? Anything in particular you’d like to see?

I’d really like to go down, deep underground, and visit the Stump Cross Caverns. It sounds a great experience, and I always love the opportunity to discover what different environments and ecosystems are like. Caves feel so alien to us, but are able to show us what life was like millions, or even hundreds of millions, of years ago. I might head there.
