Welcome to Yorkshire hosted guests from around Yorkshire, the film community and literary circles for a special supper in Skipton ahead of the Yorkshire premiere of new Brontë movie, EMILY.
The group gathered for traditional fish & chips at the famous Bizzie Lizzie’s restaurant next to the Leeds Liverpool canal.
Following a ticket giveaway at Yorkshire.com, a mother & daughter team travelled up to Skipton for the evening:
“I never win anything, I was so gobsmacked. Me and my mum had a brilliant time, we loved it!”

Also present were; Vice Chair of Trustees of the Brontë Society Helen Meller, Brontë expert Dr Michael Stewart, Head of Screen at the Science Museums Group, Kathryn Penny, producers and extras from the film EMILY and representatives from local attractions including National Trust: East Riddlesden Hall, Hardcastle Crags and Marsden Moor, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Upwood Holiday Park and Bradford Cathedral -where Patrick Brontë once visited and where a number of film events are due to be held soon.

“From all those who preserve the Parsonage, to the academics and artists teaching and breathing life into the Brontë’s literary works, through to the holiday and accommodation providers looking after tourists around Haworth, everyone has a part to play in conserving the artefacts, landscape and literature of the Brontë family for generations to come.”

For Brontë fans, the special advance screening was the culmination of years of interest:
“Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite novels and Emily Brontë has been a source of endless fascination most of my adult life. And for those two reasons, I can’t wait to see this film.”

The advent of the new film also offers fans a new invitation to visit the moors and Haworth:
“It’s inevitable that we strive to imagine and reimagine Emily’s world, as we know so little of it and that creates this space – this pure potential. Emily’s iconic story of obsessive love was also entirely imagined and not drawn from experience, so it seems fitting that we also make up our own tales with similar wild abandon.
“We do know that the moors were Emily’s one true love and as someone who has spent a great deal of time in Haworth this year, I can see why. Haworth seems to place you under a spell. At its heart are soulful people, funny and warm, and at the edges are these mesmerising ghosts.
“I’m happy to have a whole six months of my residency left because I’m kind of addicted!”

EMILY is released on Friday 14th October in cinemas nationwide. Yorkshire boasts a number of boutique cinemas, alongside major chains and the National Science and Media Museum.

The Brontë Parsonage Museum is in Haworth in West Yorkshire. Visitors can see where the Brontë family grew up and view a number of important artefacts including jewellery, manuscripts and keepsakes.
