Malton is a pretty Yorkshire market town, located on the north of the River Derwent on the historic boundary between the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire.
The town is known as a top foodie destination with its famous food festival, monthly food market, Malton Cookery School, traditional food shops and 'Made in Malton' artisan producers. It was Antonio Carluccio who first called the town, "Yorkshire's Food Capital!". It also has a large number of excellent independent shops.

Malton is fast becoming known for its excellent food and drink offering and is home to the renowned Food Lovers Festival as well as fantastic restaurants, an excellent selection of food shops and great food and drink producers.
Malton has always been a working market town and that has never been truer than in the present day. There is a regular livestock market, a traditional market every Saturday and a new Food Lovers Market. The town is filled with charming independent shops as well as some high street favourites and, for shopping ease parking is now free in the Market Place for two hours.
Castle Howard is a stately home close to Malton, and one of the grandest private residences in Britain. Built between 1699 and 1712 for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle, the magnificent castle has been home to the Howard family for more than 300 years. The castle is now set within 1,000 acres of beautiful landscape, where you can relax in the idyllic gardens, enjoy lakeside walks and let off steam in the adventure playground. The castle also offers a varied programme of events and exhibitions, perfect for a family day out - come rain or shine.
Close to the town is the well known theme park Flamingo Land - a great day out for families, attracting around 1.8m visitors per year. The park and zoo boasts many white knuckle thrillers including a suspended looping rollercoaster, smaller rides for young children and an extensive zoo, home to many rare and exotic animals including giraffes, rhinos, hippos and lions. Flamingo Land also has a holiday village where you can hire log cabins or luxury static caravans - perfect for a short break.

Located on the outskirts of Malton, Eden Camp is a multi-award winning Modern History Theme Museum housed within the grounds of an original World War Two prisoner of war camp. It was developed into a museum by local businessman Stan Johnson to stand as a tribute to all people, civilian and military, who endured hardship throughout World War Two.
Palace Cinema is a family owned and run cinema showing the latest release family and quality films for a discerning audience. The Palace Cinema has a state-of-the-art digital projector provided by the UK Film Council.
Also, if you have time, head to The Yorkshire Arboretum. This is a glorious 120 acre garden of trees offering woodland walks, tours, family activities, a café, interactive displays, events, lakeside trails and outdoor education.

Food at James Martin Restaurant is a must, with BBC TV chef, originally from Malton, in charge of the kitchen at The Talbot. Martin, who is well-known for his cookery shows on BBC and Channel 4, makes the most of the area's renowned butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers to produce menus of classic but simple food of the highest quality. The Beansheaf Hotel's kitchen team pride themselves in using freshly cooked local and seasonal produce wherever possible. They seek to serve you with delicious and well presented food. Booking is advised, especially at weekends and during busy periods.
Beautifully located in a converted cart shed on our traditional working farm, the Whole Hogg Farm Shop and Tearoom, enjoys a picturesque and tranquil setting close to the banks of the River Derwent in Ryedale, North Yorkshire. With real old-fashioned charm, this Farm Shop boasts a well stocked butchery and delicatessen and sells a wide selection of traditional farmhouse produce including organic vegetables, jams, chutneys, bread and home-baking.
Finally, don't miss St Michaels Tavern. Head to this German bar and restaurant that is comfortably situated in an old Victorian style house. Specialising in German beers, wines and food, and with it's own beer garden, this is a great find.

Wolds Way Lavender and Herb Farm is a wonderful and relaxing place to visit. The family run 12 acre site is currently planted with over six acres of lavender ranging from rich hues of purple to the purest white.
Yorkshire Lavender. This is the North of England's triple award-winning visitor attraction, lavender farm and gardens all set within the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visit the award-winning Gardens, The Wibbly Wobbly Way, The Lynne Goodwill Memorial Garden, Deer Park, Sculpture Park and probably the largest hillside Snakes and Ladders in Yorkshire - fun for all the family!
Castle Howard. One of England's most beautiful houses, Castle Howard was built in the 18th-century by Sir John Vanbrugh for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. The magnificent house sits in a landscape of rolling hills and unexpected monuments; Visitors discover dramatic interiors containing world-renowned collections, while they listen to friendly and knowledgeable guides share the stories of previous generations.
Smash is a little treasure trove full of fashionable goodies, clothes, jewellery, handbags and accessories.
The Patisserie opened in early 2011, fronted by local chef Andrew Walker. After turning round The Black Bull at Pickering with his Aunt, Andrew decided to return to his main passion of fine pastry, opening a new shop to fill a gap within Malton's bustling town centre. They serve a range of delicious sandwiches, paninis, puddings and baked goods.
Corks and Cans is a privately owned and independent Off Licence with a well-earned reputation for providing excellent customer service. Established by Proprietor, Ray King, in 1993, it offers quality drinks and tobacco at incredible prices. Newspapers and magazines are now also on sale here.
