Traditionally Castleford conjures up images of coalmining, pottery and glass, but this town's industrial past has been transformed over the years. The pits have been replaced by pistes and if you're looking for a spot of fun and adventure, Castleford is packed with thrilling attractions making it the perfect place to enjoy a short break or day trip.

Hit the slopes For some exhilarating fun, visit Castleford's Xscape complex.

Modern Castleford

The Romans may have discovered Castleford but over the past few years the strong community spirit in this town has led to exciting plans for the future. The public Road Bridge over the River Calder is one of the few major structures of any antiquity, which has survived. Now the town is slowly being rejuvenated by the community, with a new landmark footbridge designed and constructed with the help of the community and has even attracted the support of TVs Kevin McCloud
