1 Your Account

1.1 Access to the Website and Services is not authorised by any other person or entity using your User ID other than you and you are responsible for preventing such unauthorised use. Individuals and entities whose privilege to access the Website or use the Services has previously been terminated by Yorkshire.com may not register for an account, nor may you designate any such individuals to use your account on your behalf.

1.2 Yorkshire.com relies on User IDs to determine whether users accessing the Website and using our Services are authorised to do so. If someone accesses our Website or Services using a User ID that we have issued to you, we will assume that access has been made by you. You are solely responsible for any and all access to the Website or use of the Services by persons using your User ID. Please notify us immediately if you become aware that your User ID is being used without authorisation.

Selby

The historic town of Selby is one of Yorkshire's hidden gems. Why not head off the beaten track and explore the huge and truly breathtaking mediaeval Abbey, discover a crumbling 15th century gatehouse and then settle down for a memorable meal in one of the town's many fine restaurants. Located in picturesque Yorkshire countryside, this town is an excellent base for a short break or holiday.

1,000 years of history

The pretty town of Selby is dominated by the superb Abbey, founded in AD1069. Having stood for almost 1,000 years, the Abbey is a testament to endurance during some of England's most destructive periods in history. Magnificent both inside and out, this holy site was once destroyed by fire then rebuilt by hand, and now resides at the heart of community life (holding regular services and concerts) for this charming Yorkshire town.

Pennine Trails, paintballing and pubs!

  • Walkers and cyclists will love the scenery around Selby, in particular the Trans Pennine Trail cycleway with its direct path into the heart of York.
  • If you're looking for some adrenaline-pumping action, why not take your chances against The Predator (yes, really!) or go quad biking at the Yorkshire Paintball Centre.
  • Selby Town Hall is regarded as one of the best live venues in the area, having won the Yorkshire Post's 'Nightlife Award'. Expect local band nights, big crowds and the annual Battle of the Bands which has been known to sell out in a matter of hours!


Flying the flag for America

History buffs will enjoy a visit to the Abbey where you can see the Washington Window - a stained glass window featuring the heraldic arms of the ancestors of George Washington, and often cited as an influence for America's Stars and Stripes flag. Not to be missed!
