1 Your Account

Country living and real ale in Masham

It's easy to see what the artist JW Turner saw in Masham's green scenery and pleasant character, and impossible not to be drawn to the charms of the fine market square. Gourmets will want to start at the famous Black Sheep Beer and Theakston Breweries or with a slice of the celebrated Wensleydale Cheese. Outdoor lovers will be similarly spoilt by the Annual Sheep Fair, the festival of horses and the all year round beauty of The Dales.

It is without doubt that artists and authors will want to linger in the town's many galleries and crafts shops on offer. ArtisOn provides an unrivalled choice of short art and craft skills workshops in the Yorkshire Dales. Treat yourself to anything from painting to stained glass, from blacksmithing to knitting, from ceramics to jewellery-making. Run by artist Josie Beszant, the Masham Gallery is a magnet for visitors. Informal and inviting, the gallery sells work by around 50 artists, you'll find high quality individual pieces often unavailable anywhere else.
