The Deep's dramatic building overlooks the Humber estuary and is only a few minutes’ walk from the Museums Quarter and Hull Marina.
It offers a unique blend of stunning marine life, interactive and audio-visual presentations which together tell the dramatic story of the world’s oceans.
Journey from the birth of the oceans into the future. Travel from tropical lagoons to the icy waters of Antarctica. As you descend deeper into the oceans come face to face with sharks, rays, shimmering golden trevally and hundreds of other exotic species.
Visit our brand new exhibit ‘Bug Champions’… dubbed this year’s tiniest sporting event! See who in the insect world is the biggest, strongest and fiercest in our tribute to the London 2012 Olympics.
This exciting new exhibit features a whole range of fascinating insects and invertebrates including the mega mantis, giant prickly stick insects, blue bottle green tarantula, mombo assassin bugs, death feigning beetles, black beauty stick insects and much more.
Visitors can also see the superb Amazon Flooded Forest tank which is home to some striking species including turtles, silver arowana, ripsaw catfish, motoro stingray, tiger shovelnose catfish and pacu. The flooded forests of the Amazon annually receive over 9m of rain in just three months and as a result the Amazon quickly bursts its banks and floods the surrounding area. These areas are incredibly diverse yet vulnerable environments which become home to a huge range of species.
Also Living Rivers, which takes a look at five of the world’s major river systems; the Amazon in Brazil, the Mekong in China, the Betsiboka in Madagascar, the Rio Grande in Mexico/USA and the Congo in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Living Rivers is home to fascinating species including red-bellied piranhas, leaf cutter ants, blue poison arrow frog, emerald tree boa, African butterfly fish and emperor scorpion; a real must see for the whole family.
Other highlights include daily dive presentations and animal feedings, discovery corner sessions where you can get up close with some of our animals, taking a ride in our glass lift through the 10m tank and walking through Europe’s deepest viewing tunnel.
The Deep is a conservation and educational charity, working on a programme of preservation and research around the world. Partners include Equipe Cousteau, London Zoo, The Shark Trust and The Marine Conservation Society. These projects aim to help conserve the world's oceans and raise public awareness of the threats facing them. The Deep works in collaboration with many conservation organisations, universities, other aquariums and institutions. The Deep is proud to be a member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums), the professional body representing the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and Ireland.
