Housed in a former Odeon Cinema with many original art deco features, the Stephen Joseph Theatre boasts two auditoria - The Round, a 404-seat theatre in the round and The McCarthy, a 165-seat endstage which doubles as a cinema.In addition, the building houses a shop, gallery, restaurant and bar, and hosts events such as weddings, charity events, business lunches, conferences and private cinema hire.The SJT was founded in 1955 by the eponymous Stephen Joseph and continued to thrive under the artistic direction of playwright, Alan Ayckbourn, who stepped down in 2009. Chris Monks is the current Artistic Director of the SJT.
