The York Dungeon is a unique visitor attraction that brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages and scenes in a truly unique and exciting walkthrough experience that you see, hear, touch, smell and feel. It's hilarious fun and sometimes a bit scary.

It's a fully themed experience. That means 360° sets, full on authenticity and theatrical storytelling. On your journey you’ll pass through York Castle Prison and hear the tale of the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin; join the Traitors Rebellion as Henry VIII brings the wrath of the Tudors against the City of York and discover what happened to Guy Fawkes after he was caught?

- Discover Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot and what really happened that November night.

- Come face to face with the most blood-thirsty Vikings of York.

- Will you crack under the pressure of the Torturer and his intimidating instruments?

- Step inside Castle Prison and delve into Dick Turpin’s infamous crimes.

Are you ready for a journey through 2000 years of York’s murky past? Take the readiness test http://www.thedungeons.com/york/en/explore-the-dungeon/what-is-the-york-dungeon.aspx

Accessibility Statement

The majority of our facilities are designed to be fully accessible to our disabled guests, however The York Dungeon is situated in a Grade 2 Listed building and this does cause some restrictions for guests with mobility difficulties. • The York Dungeon is unsuitable for electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters. There is a standard manual wheel chair on site which can be used (subject to availability). • We have two flights of stairs, both sets of stairs have stair lifts and the guest must be able to transfer unaided from the wheel chair to the stair lift to gain entry. • The Stair Lifts have a safe working load of one person and a maximum weight of 120KG (18.8 stone). For safety reasons, we can only accommodate one wheelchair user per hour who requires an evacuation chair to exit the building during the event of an evacuation. For Groups with more than one wheelchair user please contact the Dungeon to discuss access and how we may be able to accommodate your visit. • The York Dungeon tour lasts approximately one hour, most of which you will be required to stand. Guests with back or neck complaints should alert a member of staff on entry who will provide guidance on aspects of the tour you should be aware of. The Dungeon is not suitable for those suffering from claustrophobia. • The York Dungeon is a show based attraction primarily led by actors. We provide a booklet with an abbreviated version of the shows for guests with impaired hearing. • The Dungeon is very dark and those with low vision or visual impairment may have difficulty navigating around the facility. Assistance Dogs are welcome in the Dungeon, however we find that due to the nature of the attraction it may not be suitable for them and some dogs may become distressed. • The dungeon has a fully accessible toilet facility which is located after the 3rd show inside the dungeon. • Disabled customers can book a priority entrance ticket online at full price and a helper is welcome without charge. To make a booking online please purchase one ticket as the carer does not need to buy a ticket. We require documentary proof of disability i.e. blue / orange badge or similar. If you have any queries or concerns prior to your visit, please call us directly on 01904 632599 and speak to a member of staff, who will be happy to answer any questions regarding access to the attraction.
