Every week throughout the year, the two North Yorkshire towns of Northallerton and Thirsk have great markets for you to visit.
Market days in Northallerton are Wednesdays and Saturdays when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce from fruit and vegetables through clothes, hardware and computer and phone accessories, healthy food and fresh fish. On the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers market selling local produce and food. There's plenty of parking nearby and this market contributes to the vibrancy of this picturesque market town.
Thirsk Market Days are on Mondays and Saturdays including bank holidays. On these days, the south side of the Market Place has a variety of stalls selling everything from fruit and vegetables, candles, computer games to health food, clothing and hardware. On most bank holiday Mondays the whole market place is almost filled by stalls and is a busy place, packed full of treats. Car parking is free in for one hour in Thirsk market place, with a minimal additional charge if you want to stay longer. Thirsk market is also easy to get to by bus and train and Thirsk railway station, which is about a mile from the town centre, is part of the main East Coast line so the market is very accessible.
Yorkshire's city markets are wonderful places to visit, where you'll find everything from fresh foods to fabric, clothing to crockery, and everything else in between. Visit them once and you'll want to come back again and again!
