A real local gem. Abundant hirundines especially sand Martins and swifts and some rare waders like avocet plus good numbers of lapwing. A great place to come and unwind. It's always pretty quiet too. YWT have done wonders here.

This Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve is one of the few large areas of open water in this part of North Yorkshire and attracts a wide range of breeding and wintering waders and wildfowl. Once a working sand and gravel quarry, Bolton-on-Swale Lake has been landscaped to provide suitable habitat for a wide range of wetland bird species.

Beautiful place with a vast amount of wild life and water life. With lovely well kept bird hides. Really wished I had more time to spend there. Parking available but the road to it. Well drive very slow. Wish I had more time to spend there. Will definitely return.

Difficult to find as not sign posted from the main road. You travel about half a mile down a single track rough road to get to the carpark. Trust your sat nav. Limited access and only two hides which considering the size of the wetlands are not far apart.
