Do not use this garage. After being hit by an uninsured driver, my insurance company instructed me to take my car to FMG in Huddersfield. I trusted the recommendation and didn’t check the reviews — a mistake I won’t make again. The accident happened on 15th September. FMG couldn’t fit me in until 28th October. Before the repair date, they carried out a “vehicle assessment” that lasted less than ten minutes and was done entirely in the car park. I was expecting to have to leave my car for it to be properly assessed. It was a rear shunt, so I expected a straightforward repair. What I got was anything but. When I collected my car, the tailgate was visibly misaligned, the exhaust tips were marked, and the black badges on the boot had been replaced with chrome ones without asking me. When I pointed out the alignment issue, they took the car back inside twice, each time returning it still off‑centre. The technician’s explanation? “It’s a JLR product, they never align properly.” Completely dismissive. They tried to polish the exhaust marks off in the car park. As for the badges, I was told chrome was “standard” so that’s what they fitted — leaving me with mismatched badges and no phone call to check my preference. Then came the real problems. They had replaced the tow bar and wiring loom, but when I plugged in my trailer, the electrics didn’t work. I booked it back in, only to be told on arrival that they had “no record” of my booking. When they eventually looked at it, they claimed the electrics were fixed. They weren’t. This happened twice before on the final visit they discovered the wheel well was full of water and the towbar module was submerged in three inches of it. Their explanation? “That bottle of water in your boot must have leaked.” Completely ridiculous. The actual cause was a leaking tailgate strut — something they should have spotted, given they’d already been fiddling with the tailgate multiple times. I went back to my insurance company, and only recently — nine months after the accident — have I finally got my car repaired properly. Summary - Returned my car three times with substandard repairs. Twice told me the electrics were fixed when they clearly weren’t. Repeatedly failed to answer calls or return messages. Dismissive attitude, poor communication, and shocking workmanship. The most unprofessional and disorganised company I’ve ever dealt with. Avoid this garage at all costs.
My car was hit and had lots of damage to the bumper, wing, wheel and drivers door. The garage was very helpful and my car came back in perfect condition. The reception staff were so lovely both on the phone and when I went to pick my car up.
Because they were short staffed and couldn't repair my bumper scuff in the 4 days they booked it in for they declared it as total loss as the hire car was £247 a day which I have had for 24 days now . Absolutely disgusting and this is why our insurance premiums are going through the roof. Bought the car back and had it repaired for £160 . Claim it £13500 . Fmg is something to do with nortgate vehicle rental who are something to do with auxilis who supplied the hire car. I see a scam here .
AVOID this place, the repair on my new car was shocking, the paint work was terrible it even came back with 2 dents in it, had to take it back to get it rectified, came back again with bolts & rivets missing, the badge wasn’t stuck on properly, then the door handle came loose, so now having to take it elsewhere, also the staff are awful!
I was assigned this garage to repair my car after my accident, and they provided me with a courtesy car. I only drove the courtesy car for two out of the seven days I had it. When I returned it, they began accusing me of scratching the vehicle, even though I had barely used it. I asked them to prove that the scratch wasn’t already there before the car was handed over to me. They struggled to find any record of the car’s condition and eventually produced receipts showing that a previous customer had damaged the car and apologised for it. This made it clear that they hadn’t properly documented the car’s condition when giving it to me. The whole situation caused me unnecessary stress, and the garage did not fulfil their responsibility to properly record the courtesy car’s condition at the initial handover or to locate the previous records in a timely manner.
