Welcome to Yorkshire
News • August 10th, 2026
|Local businesses in West Yorkshire recently traded their boardroom meetings for a day filled with fun and friendly competition, all in the name of charity. The event, known as the Coniston Challenge Day, raised an impressive £56,000 for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, which provides essential care and support for those facing terminal illnesses.
Coniston Challenge Day
This year, twenty teams participated in the Coniston Challenge Day, engaging in a variety of exciting activities designed to test their skills and teamwork. Participants took on challenges such as:
Clay pigeon shooting
Off-road Land Rover driving
Zorb football
Welly wanging
These activities not only provided entertainment but also fostered camaraderie among local businesses while raising much-needed funds for the hospice. The money raised will directly support Sue Ryder’s palliative and end-of-life care services, which help individuals both at home and within the hospice located in Oxenhope, near Keighley.
Supporting Vital Care
Adam Brunskill, the Regional Team Manager at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from local businesses:
“We’re absolutely thrilled the Coniston Challenge Day raised such a wonderful total, and so grateful to all the businesses who took part for their generosity. Their support will help us to continue providing vital care for people living with a terminal illness at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and in the community.”
The funds raised will assist not only in providing care for patients but also in offering bereavement support, which is crucial for those coping with loss. Sue Ryder aims to provide a safe and reassuring hand for families and individuals facing difficult times, ensuring they are not alone in their experiences of grief and illness.
Special Thanks
A special mention was given to the Bannister family, The Coniston Hotel, and various sponsors for their kindness and support in making the event successful. Byworth Boilers Limited emerged as the overall winners of this year’s challenge, showcasing their teamwork and competitive spirit.
The event was supported by several local businesses and organisations, including:
The Coniston Shooting Ground
Land Rover Experience Yorkshire
KDM Events Ltd
BIBBY’S OF INGLETON LIMITED
Additionally, sponsors such as ADNC Projects Limited, Brook Taverner Ltd, LCM, AWB Charlesworth Solicitors, and RN Wooler contributed to the event's success.
Upcoming Fundraising Events
For those interested in further supporting Sue Ryder, the next corporate fundraiser is the annual Beef & Beer Dinner, scheduled for 5 November at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley. This black-tie event gathers businesses from across the region with the goal of raising significant funds to help continue Sue Ryder’s important work in the community.

A Lifeline for Many
Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice has been a crucial source of support for over 70 years, providing care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and offering bereavement support to families. The hospice is dedicated to ensuring that people in Wharfedale, Airedale, Craven, and parts of Bradford have access to the help they need during some of life’s most challenging moments.
By participating in events like the Coniston Challenge Day, local businesses not only contribute to a worthy cause but also help to raise awareness about the importance of palliative care and bereavement support. As Adam Brunskill highlighted, “We can’t wait for next year’s event already – and hope to see even more businesses taking part to help fund palliative and end-of-life care.”
