Stayed one night on bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. The room was lovely and as you’d expect in a hotel of this calibre but surprisingly no fridge . The bathroom was huge and the room was really for a standard room. We had full use of the spa facilities which was amazing and highly recommend. Evening meal was amazing and so was breakfast. Couldn’t have asked for more. All staff were lovely, friendly but still professional. We had a great overnight stay and would highly recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you to all at Swinton for a wonderful midweek stay

Front of house staff in the hotel were excellent. Special mention has to go to Tony who greeted us and gave us a lovely tour of the place upon arrival, such a lovely gentleman and a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the place. Lovely grounds for a morning walk before breakfast and the spa facilities were very good too. Mattress in room had seen better days and wasn't very comfortable at all - disappointed with this and such an easy thing to keep on top of. Service on the terrace was patchy at best, there were a couple of staff there that were great but also some who were certainly lacking in the service expected...

We stayed in March for 2 nights, opted for one of the bedrooms in the main house. We stayed in an earls suite category room and it was large witha great view. Only downside- i really would like to have had a fridge in the room. The bathroom was also of a good size but i did not like the addition of soft furnishings in a wet area- it made it feel unclean. The shower also was impossible to maintain any temperature and only stayed warm for a few moments before going cold. The bathroom shelf was also detatching from the wall which things kept falling off. Dinner on the first night was disapointing. We were never asked for feedback despire both meals not being finished. The cod was very greasy and served on top of the chips which made cutting difficult and the burger was very rubbery. The cider was also served with mouldy fruit garnish. We cancelled our dinner reservation for the following night. After dinner we went to the spa, perhaps it was understaffed but it was a mess in the changing rooms, All the loungers and tables were filled with used towels and cups, the state remained the same throughout our whole visit. The spa facilities themselves were good though and a great size. This was the same on both evenings. The hotel building is stunning as well as the grounds, sadly the facilities, service and expierience did not match.

Low Swinton Cottage - Swinton Estate. Marketed as a luxury hotel, but in reality it delivers an Airbnb experience — no room service, no minibar, no housekeeping, and little sense of actually staying in a hotel. One half-expects to be asked to take the bins out. The hotel was busy for Burns Night, yet service suffered noticeably. Staff were lovely and clearly overworked, holding things together with charm rather than support. Food was decent, though both of our wine choices were unavailable, which felt on-brand. Breakfast was terrible. £35 for something that a Toby Carvery would be ashamed of. No pastries left, no juices, no toast left. Bacon so overcooked it resembled shoe leather. The spa was the low point. My wife’s facial was handled so poorly it caused skin damage, followed by towels so hot she had to end the session early. Management showed no real interest afterward. Swinton has great staff and plenty to do, but compared with other luxury estate hotels in the region, it lacks the polish and refinement its luxury label suggests. A clear case of aspirations above capabilities.

Quite simply perfectly preserved and maintained in classic tasteful style, a stunning building, interior and unsurpassed grounds. The very best of a classic British grand country house hotel. Modern development of spar and restaurant very well designed and maintained in keeping with the pitch. Sadly poorly run. Food inconsistent and sloppy (human hair in neighbouring tables lunch) virtually zero trout in my dish billed and described by staff as primarily trout. Indifferent staff, who could not even get the basics right with orders, or open a bottle of wine with their new corkscrew! Receptionist who did not seem to know what month it was! The formal restaurant now transformed from a classic world class dining room to an indifferent bistro with cheap tables and chairs crammed in and a hideous plastic looking partition in the middle of the room. Such a pity. It could all be so special if properly managed with trained and motivated staff.
