|Hull City Council is set to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists in east Hull by introducing two new parallel crossings. The installation work will commence next week, with the aim of making the roads safer and more accessible for everyone.
New Crossings on Marfleet Lane and Midmere Avenue
The upcoming crossings will be located on Marfleet Lane and Midmere Avenue. This initiative is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and promoting active travel throughout the city. Active travel refers to walking, cycling, and other forms of non-motorised transport that encourage a healthier lifestyle.
Details of the Installations
The new crossing on Midmere Avenue will be positioned right next to the eastern entrance of Winifred Holtby Academy. This location has been chosen to provide a safer crossing point for students, staff, residents, and all road users. Construction for this crossing is scheduled to take place from Monday 27 July until Friday 21 August 2026.
Meanwhile, the second crossing on Marfleet Lane will be found on the bridge over the Holderness Drain. This addition will further enhance connections for pedestrians and cyclists navigating through the area. Work on this crossing is planned from Monday 3 August to Friday 28 August 2026.
Temporary Road Closures
To facilitate the installation, a one-day road closure will occur on Wednesday 26 August to allow for the application of anti-skid surfacing and the replacement of road markings. A signed diversion route will be in place to guide motorists around the affected areas.
