Arrived on a sunny day with two kids (9 and 5) and were served even though pub was officially closed. Very friendly atmosphere inside. A real old world layout. No issue with kids coming in to use toilets and the pub sells ice creams. Reeth-Langthwaite is on one of the best walks in this area so this pub is perfectly situated for that. Understand people with dogs don’t like them being banned from inside - but dogs can be unclean and unpredictable - you can’t expect every environment to admit them.

Lovely old pub in Arkengarthdale, I first visited over 40 years ago, same landlady! She doesn't do food, no children in the bar, which makes a nice change, and no dogs, which is fine too, there's plenty of seating outside and it's a lovely spot just by the bridge over Arkle Beck. This kind of place is rare to find these days, no gimmicks, no bands playing, just an old fashioned pub, well frequented by locals. There's a few comments here about the aforementioned landlady - true, you're not going get a big, enthusiastic jazzy welcome but she's been there years, knows her stuff and the Black Sheep was superb. I think it's fabulous.

Traditional old fashioned pub. Land lady has been here over 60 years!!! Understand some people aren’t happy about the no children / dog rules but we sat outside with our dog and was fine with that. Landlady and her sister were lovely, very friendly people who I’m sure have some extremely interesting stories to tell.

We arrived within 5 minutes of closing time. The Owner sisters were brilliant and served us drinks very quickly and allowed us to sit outside as the pub was locked up. They also showed us some great photos of the actors from All Creatures. Beer was IPA and very good.
