Domaine Jomain Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022, Burgundy

Domaine Jomain is a family-run winery in Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy, founded in 1992 by brothers Philippe and Christophe Jomain and their sister Catherine. They quickly became known for their outstanding expressions of Chardonnay – and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is truly an example of superb white Burgundy. Their grapes are cultivated with great respect for the environment, encouraging natural methods of pest control to ensure high quality fruit that fully express their terroir. The wine is aged in a combination of new, second-use, and third-use French oak barrels, with never more than 25% new oak. Extensive bâtonnage (lees stirring) is carried out as well as malolactic fermentation to enhance the texture of the wine. The wine is then racked, fined and returned to barrel in the spring following harvest and bottled with minimal or no filtration in September. Round and luscious, expect flavours of ripe pear, white plum, honeysuckle, and nutty aromas of hazelnut and almond. It’s layered and elegant, with crisp acidity and a long finish. Delicious with seafood served in a creamy sauce.
